This is an effective lubricant for the skin cell membrane at the surface. Ceramides occur naturally in our skin and they can be topically applied. In doing this lubrication the ceramide also controls water uptake into the cell. Ceramides are not the same exact chemistry from person to person or even within the same person. Think of ceramides as slippery lubricating discs that skim around the cell surface. Because that’s exactly what they are and do.

Ceramides restrict water uptake into the cell. Your moisturizer is not going to end up in the cell for that reason. It will most likely end up in a reservoir in the skin, held there until it can be hauled away to the skin landfill or pushed out to the surface.

The trick of ceramides is that they have one leg that likes oil and another that prefers water, for that reason ceramides are also surfactants, and can keep a cell vibrant by keeping it toned up – not too much water, not too much oil gets inside. Skin that is depleted by poor health, topical product addiction and other problems of aging will be in need of naturally occurring ceramides. For some people a topical application of ceramide from a product will give their skin a rich emollient feel and plump it up.

Do this AFTER you are certain you have no topical addiction.
